Seeking morning report, unit roster, TDY or special orders of 505th Tactical Control Group, Vietnam

Hello, I'm new here, and I need some help, please. My husband is a Vietnam veteran who served in the Air Force as from November 1958-November 1966 an Inventory Management Specialist.  His last assignment was at the Detachment 2, 619th Tactical Control Squadron (TCS), Ubon, RTAFB (call sign “Lion Control”/radar site), Thailand from May 1965-November 1966. This Detachment changed to be Detachment 3, 621st TCS, Ubon, RTAFB in February 1966.

He deployed from the Air Force Base in US around March 1965 to Clark Air Base, Philippines to receive Vaccine shots before flew to South East Asia duty. On the way to Ubon Thailand, his plane was stopped at Tan Son Nhut Air Base, RVN, and he was pulled out from the plane and must report to 505th Headquarter Tactical Control Group (TCG) because they thought he might be useful there at the Detachment 1, 619 th TCS Tan Son Nhut Air Base, (call sign “Paris”/radar site). After a week or so, they sent him to Can Tho Base (call sign “Paddy Control”/radar site) RVN, and he stayed there for a week, Then they sent him back to Tan Son Nhut Air Base, RVN, and put him on a plane to go to Ubon, Thailand. Altogether back and forth was around one month of April 1965 which was the month that missing from his military personnel records. They didn’t show that temporary duty service in Vietnam/RVN on his DD 214 too.

How do I get a morning report, unit roster, TDY or special orders of 505th TCG at Tan Son Nhut Air Base, RVN during Vietnam war in April 1965. He tried to contact and request for his military personnel records from NPRC/NARA many times, but he only got his DD 214 and other same records that he have already. He also called NPRC at 314-801-0800, but they said that’s all they have at NPRC. He asked about morning report, unit roster, payrolls, TDY orders, special orders etc., but they just said they sent out everything about him already. However, they didn’t have morning report, unit roster or any TDY that showed he served in Vietnam/RVN.

My husband and I think about want to go to visit and do the research by ourselves because we tried to contact 4 private researchers. Only Golden Arrow Research replied but said they didn’t research that one, and other threes researchers never answer, so please help me. I don’t know where I can get those reports, so any suggestions or any advice will be greatly appreciated. My husband tried to file diabetes Mellitus type 2 claim with VA long time ago, but VA never accept because he doesn’t have evidences of his service in Vietnam/RVN. Thank you in advance.

          Dear Ms. Avgerinos,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We searched the National Archives Catalog and located a series titled Morning Reports, 1948 - 1966 of the U.S. Air Force. For access to these records, please contact the National Archives at St. Louis (RL-SL) via email at stl.archives@nara.gov. These may be the same records checked by the St. Louis staff. We were unable to locate morning reports for 1958-1966 using the National Archives Catalog.

We also searched the index to the Air Force History microfilm but were unable to locate a roster for the 505th Tactical Control Group for 1956 to 1966.

Unit records in our custody do not include the record of temporary duty (TDY) assignments or special orders for individuals. Under normal Department of the Air Force records management procedures, such documentation would be destroyed after initial administrative use. A copy of these records should have been placed in your husband’s Official Military Personnel File.

We hope this information is helpful.
