We searched the indexes for General Correspondence, 1/1942 - 12/1946 and General Correspondence, 1/1947 - 12/1951 within the Records of the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (Record Group 52). While we were unable to locate any documents that specifically mentioning Frank W. Yetter or archery programs, we did find some documents providing general information about the Philadelphia Naval Hospital’s rehabilitation and therapy programs, to include programs for the blind. For access to these records contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov. For activities of Fifth Naval District during 1940s, please contact the National Archives at Philadelphia (RE-PA) at philadelphia.archives@nara.gov.
Some of the documents we located indicated that the Philadelphia Naval Hospital worked with what was then known as the New York Institute for the Blind. This organization is now known as the New York Institute for Special Education and they may have information concerning these programs. Also, there may have been mention of the program published in the professional medical literature of the time period. If this was the case, the National Library of Medicine may be able to help you locate articles about the program.
