Any documentation on Eyak Lake Weir in Alaska. Blueprints, photographs, work orders, contracts, etc.

My organization has a researcher looking for documentation about the construction of Eyak Lake Weir in Alaska. Any documentation like blueprints, photographs, contracts and the like.

Thank you for posting your question on History Hub!

In doing some research on the Eyak Lake Weir project the main contract was held by the Division of Waters and Harbors and this was a state department of Alaska that no longer exists. You will want to contact the Alaska State Archives at for more information.

You may also want to check with the City of Cordova archives and the Cordova Electric Cooperative as they were major partners in this project.

There were a number of Federal partners which included the following: US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and Federal Emergency Management.

The  Eyak Lake Weir is in the Chugach National Forest and the Land Case Files, Chugach National Forest have been digitized and are available online.  NARA has the 1964 Alaska Earthquake Photographs, 1964–1965 available online which have images of Cordova after the earthquake that led to the Eyak Lake Weir project. You should also check the Alaska Digitization Project page to review what is available online.  You will want to search the following terms:  earthquake, Cordova, and Eyak Lake.

If you would like more information on these records including receiving finding aids for records not yet digitized please contact the National Archives at Seattle at .

We hope this is helpful with your research!
