Thank you for posting your question on History Hub!   The National Archives at Philadelphia is the repository for the permanently valuable records of federal agencies and federal courts in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.

We searched the naturalization indexes of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania that cover the period 1906 to 1952 and located two individuals who might be your grandfather.  One is Giuseppe Guarino, born February 10, 1877 (Petition 8023).  He arrived in the U.S. on February 22, 1899, but his petition notes that his wife and child arrived on October 17, 1911.  He naturalized on January 10, 1913.  The other is Joseph Guarino, born August 4, 1894 (Petition 124317).  He arrived in the U.S. on May 10, 1912 and naturalized on June 23, 1937.

If either of those individuals is your grandfather, you can order digital, paper, or certified copies of the record through NARA's online ordering system by clicking on the link below.  Requests must include the individual's name and the petition number exactly as provided above.

If neither one is your grandfather, you might want to try contacting the Philadelphia City Archives to inquire whether Giuseppe/Joseph Guarino naturalized in a Philadelphia city or county court.  We only have the records of federal courts in our holdings.  Immigrants could also naturalize in non-federal courts, but those records are not typically held by the National Archives.  Here is a link to their website, which includes their contact information:

We invite you to continue the conversation with community members on History Hub, but should you have follow up questions for the staff at the National Archives at Philadelphia, please email us at philadelphia.archives@nara.gov so that we can assist you further.

We hope this helps with your research!
