William Nash born in 1801 left Liverpool, England and arrived in Jan 11, 1842, at the Port of New York on the ship - Scotland-

Directly below him on the manifest is Elizabeth Nash age: 15 and William Nash age:10. They are on the first page of 3-page manifest and are listed as Numbers 13,14,15.

Hello! Which is correct? I see here that William Nash born 1801 left Liverpool and arrived in Jan 11, 1842 at the port of New York. In a later message you say that he arrived on January 11, 1843. I believe that 1843 is the correct date. Can you confirm? (My last message had so many typos I am writing you again. I live in France, am 93 years old, and am trying to nail down our family history before nobody is left who remembers our grandparents – my brother has lost his memory and my older sister is dead.) Thanks so much for your messages!

My own direct line is not William Taylor, who must have been a very mature and competent boy to return to England to get his father's wife and his younger siblings, but Samuel Nash, his young brother. Would there be any similar documents for the marriage of Ann Taylor and William Nash, and baptism certificate for Samuel and Hepsibah? I am curious as well to know if they were always in Nottingham.

In the June 1841 census, the family is living in Broad street, Nottingham (Parish of St Mary)
William Nash sr (abt 40y, occupation: Tinman) was NOT born in Nottinghamshire cty, but apparently all the other family members were born in Nottinghamshire cty.
Living with them are 2 young apprentices and also an an “Elizabeth Taylor” (abt 50y) … I’m wondering whether she could have been his (former) mother-in-law?

FYI Hepsibah/ Hephzibah is “Elizabeth” on her (apparent) baptism document. I’m wondering whether both Elizabeths were named after their respective grandmothers and that Elizabeth #2 might have had “Hepsibah” as second name.

PS The “National Burial Index For England & Wales” contains the 1836 burial of an “Anne Nash” (born abt 1804) in Nottingham. Paysite FindMyPast is one of the locations that has this record …

You made my day! thank you for the amazing research. If William Nash was not born in Nottingham county (Robin Hood!  Sherwood Forest!) are there records for where he was born – and when? With regard to the 1841 census, most likely the Elisabeth Taylor is William's mother in law – perhaps the house had belonged to her. She lost her daughter who died young with three surviving children after 5 years of marriage and would stay to help even if new wife Harriet is now there and two more children. 

There are too many possibilities for a William Nash,  but maybe you are still interested in the following events:

It seems that William and Jane NASH had 3 children baptized in the same church as William, Samuel and Hepzibah:

Could it be that - like his first wife - William Nash originated from (New) Sleaford?

I found 2 possibilities (there could be more):
#1 - On 24 Apr 1800 a William Nash was baptized in the Henland Zion Independent Chapel in Sleaford.
Parents: William and Lucey Nash
#2 - On 3 Mar 1803 twins  William and George Nash was baptized in St Denys church in Sleaford.
Parents: Joseph and Lydia Nas

William b 1803 will die a few days after his baptism, but his parents will baptize another William in 1804. I believe that he can be found in the 1851 census, so he’s not your guy …

Hello! I believe that the William Nash I am looking for is the one who was baptised in Sleaford on 24 April 1800 as this corresponds closely to family records. I did not have the parents. He married Jane Cragg, also family records, but I do not have the details you give, for which I thank you. However, I have only the record for their child Elizabeth Ann who came with him to America. Mary 1827 and William 1829 probably did not survive, nor did their mother Ann. Awful.  The next William will be William Taylor, son with his second wife and with whom he came to American on the Scotland.

It is always a good idea not to depend on transcripts only, so you might want to drop into a Family History Centre to have a look at their Sleaford church records …
