William Nash born in 1801 left Liverpool, England and arrived in Jan 11, 1842, at the Port of New York on the ship - Scotland-
Directly below him on the manifest is Elizabeth Nash age: 15 and William Nash age:10. They are on the first page of 3-page manifest and are listed as Numbers 13,14,15.
Thank you for your research!
Harriet Nash, age 33 [wife of William Nash who did not accompany her], arrived in New York in 1843 on the Eutaw with William Nash age 10, Samuel and Hepsibah Nash [twins] age 8, Harriett age 3, Mary Ann age 1 1/2. Your research for William also seems correct because William Nash's first born Elisabeth 15 is there but how can both be correct with William Nash age 10 on both lists?

The ship Eutaw arrived in the Port of New York on Jan 9, 1843, and the ship Scotland arrived on Jan 11, 1843. I believe the ships manifest would be complied at the original port and perhaps a change was made at the last minute and that's how William went with his father and sister on the ship Scotland. The standard practice if a person is not aboard the ship is to strike or put a line threw that passenger's name, this was not done on the Eutaw manifest.

Did the ship Scotland arrive in the Port of New York on Jan 9 1943 or Jan 9 1842? If 1943 the Scotland and the Eutaw arrived 2 days appart and left Liverpool at about the same time. William Nash might not have been able to book everybody on the same boat and found booking for 6 persons on the Eutaw and 3 on the Scotland. So he listed Harriett and William age 10, the oldest, with the twins Samuel and Hepsibah age 8, and the two toddlers on the Eutaw, but also held spots on the Scotland for himself, his elder daughter Elizabeth Ann, and William 10 years old as well. William (Taylor not given in the manifest) wanted to go with dad and his big sister on the Scotland rather than stay in the crowded cabin of the Eutaw with the noisy and smelly younger siblings, but dad would not strike him off the Scotland manifest so that the space left empty could not be occupied by someone else, and it would leave more room for Harriett and children. If the Scotland arrived in New York in January 1842, the story is different and it seems hard to think that a 10-year old would be sent back to fetch the family; another point is that the age would not have been 10 years both times when there is a year difference.
