Joseph Weidman, b 1825 in Pennsylvania, unknown death date

I'm looking for my husband's ancestor, Joseph Weidman, b 3/18/1825 in Pennsylvania, married Rachel Ann Hayden in Ohio in 1847, owned property in Michigan in 1848 and can be found in 1850 census living in Eel River, Allen, Indiana. There is a Joseph Weidman with the correct age living in Frederick, Montgomery, Pennsylvania in 1860 and listed as a "laborer." I can't find him beyond that but a theory is that he fought in the Civil War and perhaps died in that war. Can you locate any military records for him? I've looked on both ancestry.com and family search. Thank you.

  • I found some information on a Family Tree on Ancestry.com   https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/6132/person/-2049277486/facts

According to this tree Joseph did register for the draft but may not have been involved in the actual combat maybe because of his Class 2 designation.

U.S., Civil War Draft Registrations Records, 1863-1865

U.S., Civil War Draft Registrations Records, 1863-1865

What is class 2 in the Civil War draft?

The records were divided into three parts, or classes: Class I - men 20-35 subject to military duty and unmarried men 36-44 subject to military duty. Class II - married men 36-44. Class III - volunteers.

According to the Family Tree he died Abt 1865 most likely in Stark, Ohio on a family letter it states he was in the service in 1864.

After his death his wife remarried to a man named Barnhart E. Ehret per the 1900 U.S. Census she is widowed.

    She died Dec 2, 1902
