Thank you. Have his immigration, 1920, 1930 census. Can’t find him on 1940 census. Last mention is this application for social. Presume he dies without marrying etc but can’t find a death or grave. Believe he lived as a lodger in poor area of Providence with no family so unsure what would happen if he died.
Plus I have his world war 1 service. He crossed into Canada to fight in WW1
Thanks, looked at 1940 census but in the early days of release so difficult to search. So if alive in 1940 would there be anything else I could try? Are deaths available online at all ?
On registration papers it says Alien, first papers. Can I follow this up at all to see if he applied for naturalisation etc
Year of Immigration and Citizenship
Ques not in 1940 U.S. Census
In the 1930 Census YOI 1910 Citz. First papers
In the 1920 Census YOI 1912 Citz. Alien
Could not locate in the 1950 U.S. Census
I believe he died between the 1940 U.S. Census and before the 1950 U.S. Census in Providence. He is listed as single on all the Census records so no claim on his SS# was recorded
I checked all the records available on Ancestry and Family Search for any record of his death, no results.
A check of FindaGrave, Newspapers.com and Genealogy Bank also had no results.
He is included on a family tree on Ancestry
https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/73022571/person/332242755804/facts
But his death is listed as unknown.
When he died most likely he would be placed in a Potter's Field. A person has written an article about a Potter's Field located in Providence Rhode Island.
Potter's Field, North Burial Ground, Providence, RI

Thanks Tim, found him on 1940 census, still unmarried lodger in Providence. Last mention I can find so either died after 1940 or perhaps moved to Canada or another state but can’t find any death etc. As poor with no family what would happen if he died? Thanks. On ancestry do you know whose tree he is mentioned in ?
Very interesting, thanks for the article.
Apologies, I have 1940 census. It is the 1950 census that I cannot find him as tricky to search but also might have died between 1940 and 1950.
