Brick wall - searching for the birth & death records of my maternal great-grandmother, Nettie (Williams) Foust

Hi All: I'm searching for the birth and death records of my great-grandmother, Nettie Williams. Here's what I know: My brick wall is with my maternal great-grandmother, Nettie (Williams) Foust. I have a record of Nettie Williams and Eugene Foust getting married on September 1, 1915, in High Point, Guilford County, NC. They then moved to Norristown, PA right after marriage for Eugene's employment at the Magnesia Plant in Port Kennedy. They had at least eight children between 1916 and 1926. It is believed that Nettie passed away sometime around or after 1926, and the husband and children were scattered all over the place. My issue is that I can't find Nettie anywhere after giving birth to her last child/my grandmother, Delores in 1926. I am unable to determine exactly when and where Nettie was born and when and where Nettie died. I have the middle of life, but nothing showing her beginning or her end.

I love researching and I'll perform the legwork myself, I just don't know where else to look.  Any assistance on direction would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

  • Eugene Foust and Nettie Williams' marriage record has the following:

    Name   Eugene Foust

    Gender Male

    Race    Black

    Age      27

    Birth Year         abt 1888

    Marriage Date   1 Sep 1915

Marriage Place  Guilford, North Carolina, USA

    Father  Mike Foust

    Mother  Millia Foust

    Spouse Nettie Williams

    Spouse Gender Female

    Spouse Race    Black

    Spouse Age      20

    Spouse Father  Ed Williams

    Spouse Mother Kate Roberson

    Event Type       Marriage

Note: Ed Williams MAY be a typo. Joe Williams was a witness. There are various records that show Joseph "Joe" Williams and Kate/Katie Meeks Williams as the possible parents for Nettie. Kate Meeks Williams remarried Charles Roberson/Robertson. Joseph and Kate had several children. I'm attempting to see if any of their records or obituaries mention Nettie.

  • Hi ASB,

Thanks for responding.  You broke down the marriage record, but as you can see from my initial request for assistance, I have this information already.

"I have a record of Nettie Williams and Eugene Foust getting married on September 1, 1915, in High Point, Guilford County, NC. They then moved to Norristown, PA right after marriage for Eugene's employment at the Magnesia Plant in Port Kennedy. They had at least eight children between 1916 and 1926."

"My issue is that I can't find Nettie anywhere after giving birth to her last child/my grandmother, Delores in 1926."

I am specifically seeking any information prior to 1915 and/or after 1926.  Thanks.

  • Have you found her parents' and siblings' obituaries? Those might indicate a remarriage or when she passed away.

  • Prior to 1915, Nettie Williams was living in Cleveland County, North Carolina, with her parents and siblings. Sources: 1900 and 1910 US Censuses.

  • I haven't found much on her father.  I have info on her mother and most of her siblings, include some obituaries, but still no indication of her whereabouts after February 1926.  She's truly a mystery to me.  I've reached out to numerous relatives/descendants of her siblings and her children, but no one living is able to give me any additional information beyond what I have found.
