Can someone please help me find my great grandfather Luther Nick

My Great Grandfathers Name is Luther Nick.  Ned Holston is his Grandfather as stated by the 1900 Census.  Ned was born in Alabama USA. Luther's Mother is Unknow.  Ned was married to Silla when she was 67 Years Old and Ned was 81. They were Married for 3 years when the 1900 United States Federal Census was released. Luther was the Grand child and was 9 years old when the Census was released. Ned was 84 when the Census was released. They were living in Collier, Edgefield County, South Carolina. Ned and Silla were Married in 1897. Silla had a total of 19 children with only 8 living. I am not sure if Ned is the Biological Grand Parent of Luther or Silla is the Biological Grand parent.  I know that they are listed in the 1900 Census however I can find no other record.  Please help.

Thank you for posting your question on History Hub!

If you have not already done so, you might consider researching 1910 and later census records in case Luther Nick was living with one or both of his parents during another census year. While federal censuses did not ask for the names of each person's parents, census records from the early 20th century typically indicate a person's relationship to the head of household. As such, 20th-century census records can be helpful for identifying parent–child relationships if the parent and child are living together and one of them is the head of household.

The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has federal population census records from 1790 through 1950. These records are digitized and available to research online. Please see NARA's Search Census Records Online page for more information. For information about other NARA records that might be helpful for researching Luther Nick, please see NARA's Resources for Genealogists page.

You might also consider researching vital records such as birth records (or birth record substitutes such as baptismal records), marriage records, or death records for information about Luther Nick and his parents. Please note that NARA does not typically have vital records. These records are created by local authorities, not by the federal government, and so they are not considered federal records.

However, you can determine which repository has vital records for a particular state by consulting the National Center for Health Statistics' Where to Write for Vital Records page. The Library of Congress also offers Local History and Genealogy Research Guides for each state, which may be helpful for identifying other records of genealogical value that are maintained by state and local repositories. Please see their U.S. State and Territory Guides for more information.
