Does the National Archive Museum have images of people who constructed the White House? Images of Philip Reid and others

To The History Hub Community,

I'm a student at Georgetown University and working on a Critical Discourse Analysis paper. 'm looking for images of men who built the White House. I am also curious to know if the National Archive Museum has it.

Any leads with respect to this will great. My deadline is December 8.

Thank you

It is difficult to say whether the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has any images of people who constructed the White House. NARA has the records of U.S. presidents starting with the administration of Herbert Hoover through the administration of Donald Trump. Any records for presidents before Hoover may be dispersed throughout any number of record groups depending on the topic. In your case, the Archives 1 Reference Branch in Washington, DC, may have administrative records of the construction of the White House, but it is unlikely we would have related images.

It is possible that NARA's Still Pictures Branch in College Park, Maryland, may have some suggestions or even a series of records related to images of White House construction. You can email staff in that unit at stillpix@nara.gov.

Additionally, we recommend that you reach out to the White House Historical Association for suggestions as well. Please visit their website at https://www.whitehousehistory.org/.

    Sincerely,
