Seeking list reports from the Consul in Gothenburg

Hi! I need help to list reports (and content/subject if possible) from the Consul in Gothenburg, Sweden, during World War II, William Corcoran, sent to Washington.

  • Dear Mr. Andersson,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We suggest that you contact the Hoover Institution Archives at Stanford University for their collection of the William Warwick Corcoran papers

We searched the National Archives Catalog and 3 series in the Records of the Foreign Service Posts of the Department of State (Record Group 84) that pertain to the U.S. Consulate at Gothenburg, Sweden during and before WWII. We also located 40 digitized file units in the Central Decimal Files, 1910 - 1963 in the General Records of the Department of State (Record Group 59) that include the term “Gothenburg” during WWII. In addition, we located the Subject Files, 1939 - 1955 in Record Group 59 that includes Drottningholm to Gothenburg [2 Folders]. For access to non-digitized records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov. Also request a search for William Corcoran in the Name Index to the Central Decimal File.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT2.  We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.

We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
