Calling all language sleuths!

This is a message to the people who tried to review the documents on top of this thread. I greatly appreciate when someone can help and can make corrections. Thank you for that! But I actually transcribed all 4 documents two weeks ago the best I could read them. Unfortunately the last one was totally messed up by someone who somehow tried to run the document through a transcription app or whatever. These things do not work! Not yet. And it makes it even worse when you do not speak the language. So please, when you try to run a document through these programs and you obviously can see the result is  complete garbage then please do not copy this in the transcription area and delete the work that someone already did.

I’ve come across a lot of this. Worse is when it is cleaned up a second time, and someone does it over and over again to the same document. 

when I see this, to save time and effort, I request the librarians to revert it to a previous (coherent) version.

There should be an "undo" button available after someone tries "transcribe with OCR" button and gets garbage. As of now it gets saved immediately and there is no going back.

Obviously it's not a good idea to use the "OCR" buttton on texts that have already been worked on, but I'm pretty sure if "undo" were available this wouldn't happen nearly as often.

Hi Margaret - wanted to let you know that we now have an undo button that we hope will serve exactly this purpose!  It was added to the software on Sept. 16. Check it out!

Unfortunately it does not work, as the OCR function automatically saves the text. The "UNDO" button only works for text that has not been previously saved.

Yes, that is true for "not started" pages when you run OCR. We are working on a fix to that bug that will be out, hopefully in the next month. In the meantime you can just delete out any OCR you don't want. However, the Undo function should be useful for the instance you mention above, where someone runs OCR on a page already in progress. Undo should let you roll that back to the previous text.

What I usually do before using OCR is to save what is already there. Highlight the text, right click and save. Then, if OCR is poorly done and I want to restore, I just paste what I saved.
