transcription of postmark

When a date is not provided in the text of a letter or in marginalia, it would seem beneficial to acknowledge any date provided on the document via stamped postmark. Should the transcription of this information occur within brackets [] or marginalia marks [**]?

Hi there, Great question! I would suggest using the marginalia marks for anything in a postmark. Plain brackets should only be used for deletions or when you are noting an illegible or unclear word.…

Great question! I would suggest using the marginalia marks for anything in a postmark. Plain brackets should only be used for deletions or when you are noting an illegible or unclear word. While you don't have to transcribe stamps or postmarks, if you do capture that information it would seem to fall more along the lines of marginalia than any other type of text.
