Please help with the Roosevelt Papers, there are so many and I wish to finish them
Hi Evan- I have been working in Teddy Roosevelt since March. I started with "in progress" and once that was close to done (before the latest document dump) I went back to reviewing. I am now in
2. Mar. 7-Sept. 15 1901:
Vice Presidency and McKinley's Assassination April 20- May 8
I am going in order and when I finish all documents in this folder I may go back to "in progress" in the new section. TR will take years to complete so don't get discouraged. There are others working here but with the volume of papers we are in for a long haul.
BTW, if you ever want me to review a page or if you have a question about a document feel free to paste it here. I would be glad to look it over.
Take care,
Henry
I have been painstakingly working through the 1908-1910 TR Letters. I have almost completed the entirety of one section -- entering over 500 files "for review" the past few weeks. It certainly would be helpful to buddy up to get these approved (where appropriate) or re-edited. If you have time to do a few a week (slowly as you have time) it would really help. I can do the same for you too of course - just let me know the section!
The section I have mostly completed is:
Theodore Roosevelt Papers: Series 1: Letters and Related Material, 1759-1919; 1908, Dec. 20-1909, Jan. 25
https://crowd.loc.gov/campaigns/rough-rider-bull-moose-theodore-roosevelt/safari/mss382990087/?
I had to re-open a number of completed documents while doing this, as there were many errors in transcription of names, places, etc. It constantly amazes me that people will just make things up when they can't quite read text, but they do...
Fantastic! Thanks for all the scrutiny. Aside from 300-301 (German) there appear to be 7 still needing review. Possibly I came along and edited - not sure. If you can take one final look at that I think we can call it a wrap.
Henry Rosenberg - I’m still slightly ahead of you(97) but have shifted to go back and do a bit of cleanup of early sections (missing signatures, etc). I have two very small bits I’d love you to look at, as you are a handwriting master!
Could you please look at the remaining “in progress” pages from sections 19 and 20 below. There are a few bits that have be stymied. I can approve right after you move them into review. Don’t worry about 21 yet. Thanks, as always!
Section 20:
Section 19:
Hi Diane- I may not get to it until tomorrow. We are headed out today. I'll let you know when I have checked them.
Henry
Hi Diane- I just finished working on the pages. I asked the moderators to reopen
because on the left page end of line three and beginning of line four I believe the words are "I call myself..." so that page may appear sometime also.
As always, if you disagree with any of my edits let me know. I do not mind a little back and forth and do not pretend that I am always right. I could not get every word but made some improvements so maybe it will help you to figure out the other words. If you want me to check again, let me know.
BTW, if you find letters from African Americans, there were some interns working on a project and they may want them. I guess you could email at crowd@LOC.gov if you come across any. I sent them one from Booker T. Washington I saw among the pages you sent me.
Henry
Thanks! Back and forth is great, but I do agree with you on the wording.
Yes, I’ve found a few pages from African-Americans over the past few weeks that I’ve sent along to LOC. There is quite a lot in the documents from Booker Washington.
Hi Diane- I had told Abby about Booker T. Washington letters in general but could not remember where they were. They're probably scattered throughout the campaign. I edited the one page I told you that I asked to be reopened if you want to review it.
Henry
Done! And thanks so much.
Yes, I also sent a representative BTW page to the librarians…there is a lot!
I'm cleaning up these early sections, so no doubt will ask you for some more review of complicated handwriting in a week or two. The easy scrub doesn’t need your eagle eye.
Great job sending those BTW pages to them. I figured I would do it when I went back but I'm sure they appreciated getting it ASAP. I noticed there were a lot of IP pages in 1901 but thought you might be working on them so I left it for now. Send me anything you would like me to look at. I'm glad to contribute in any way I can.
Exactly - I’m scrubbing TONS of basic errors. No need to waste time until I narrow it down a bit.
Henry Rosenberg - When you have some time, I have another small collection of "in progress" TR documents with difficult handwriting that I have winnowed down for your review (continuing my cleanup project). I've gotten as far as I can with it and hope new eyes can help!
The latest is Section 21. You can ignore all the newspaper articles (402 - 518), as I am simply working slowly through those. They are time-consuming but not tricky and I plan to wrap them up this week.

I'll start working on them in a little while.
Hi Diane- I did as best I could with them. I submitted them for review. If you come across those pages and want me to re-review them, let me know.
