We searched the National Archives Catalog and located Class 23 (Liquor Violations) Litigation Case Files and Enclosures, 1910 - 1970 in the General Records of the Department of Justice (Record Group 60) that may include files relating to the case if he was arrested by federal law enforcement. This series is name indexed by the General Index to Litigation Case Files, 1904 - 1951 in Record Group 60. Neither the case files nor the index are available online. For more information about these records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) at Archives2reference@nara.gov.
There are also several series of criminal records of the U.S. District Court of Kansas in the Records of District Courts of the United States (Record Group 21) that may include records related to federal Prohibition cases for the state of Kansas. For more information about these records, please contact the National Archives at Kansas City (RM-KC) at kansascity.archives@nara.gov.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT2 and RM-KC. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.
Please note that in addition to federal enforcement of federal prohibition laws, many states had prohibition laws enforced by state and local governments. You may wish to consult with area libraries to review back issues of local newspapers to find if there was any reporting on the case which may indicate which authorities conducted the arrest and tried the case. You also may wish to search online newspaper repositories such as the Library of Congress Chronicling America. If the case was tried in a state, county or municipal court, please contact that court or its successors to inquire about the disposition of any relevant records.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
