I have just recently joined here and began by simply tagging files that I am already going through. Eventually I tried a little bit of transcription on some pages that were nearly "white", at least that's the best way I can describe them. Instinctively, I downloaded an image and opened it with my Gimp app. If you don't know Gimp it is an opensource free image manipulation tool that really is as good as photoshop. Under the colors tab I usually use the curves and exposure features and can usually bring a document to light within a couple minutes. I have also used the sharpen tool under filters tab as well. I do not subtract or add pixels to the image nor do I replace or erase anything. After the fact, I wondered if it is acceptable to use an app to bring text to life in a faded document? Just thought maybe I'd ask before I go any further....
Happy Transcribing....
