Tagging foreign languages

I've been tagging from this Series  (de Burgh comms), which contains documents in Italian.  I speak and read Italian, though not fluently.  My question is whether I ought to tag in Italian only or should we include translated tags--e.g. Ministero della Guerra and also Ministry of War-?

  • Hi,

Thanks for your question and for all your work as a Citizen Archivist!  Tags are many to help researchers search for relevant records, and since most of our user will be searching in English, please include the English.  If Ministero della Guerra is in the original record and the transcription, it will be found in searches, and it is not necessary to repeat it as a tag.  I hope this guidance is helpful.  Please let us know if you have any more questions.

    Sincerely,
