I know this has been said before, but there are so many errors and illegible notations that it makes trying to read some of these records almost impossible. If transcribers would only take the time to read back through their work, I'm certain they would see many of these misspellings. Also, when I come to a word I can't quite make out, I first enlarge the screen to its fullest which sometimes works. Other times, I mark the spot and when finished and proofreading, a meaning will become clear as to what the original writer was trying to say. The writing at best is very difficult, but that is what makes this such an interesting challenge, and after a while, you begin to recognize certain things that wouldn't apply today. I do think the powers that be should have a team of transcribers who would do nothing but proofread and correct. I'd be up for it.
