I am in need of some assistance transcribing some
illegible words in the Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Application File S. 23404, for Henry Rote, New York - Document NAID 196541350. page 21.
In the first letter on the top half of the page, on the last line of the letter, I am not understanding the words that I see as “Nine Month Men Called Levamen”. Could “Levamen” possibly be the name of a Regiment? As I further looked into this, I am not able to find anything that confirms it:
In the second half of the page, in the second letter, approximately 4 lines down, I am uncertain of the word after “Elijah Whiting”. I am possibly seeing the word “signer” but would like confirmation of this thought:
The words that are giving me the most difficulty are four words in the final two lines at the bottom of the page that read, “… and know him to be a man of credibility as to truth and veracity and should [illegible] [illegible] [illegible] [illegible] on the above affidavit.”
I have spent quite a bit of time trying to decipher these four words and realized that I need help:
I appreciate any help that can be offered.
Any assistance provided would be greatly appreciated.
