Are transcriptions reviewed after they are completed and posted?

I'm wondering if there is a mod team or something that reviews the transcriptions and rejects any that are not accurate?

  • The National Archives does not review citizen contributed transcriptions. We use a wikipedia model for transcription. This means we never consider something closed for further editing. We focus on transcription for searchability, therefore we do not have a review process to confirm the accuracy of the work. A few hours after you transcribe a record, the text is searchable in the Catalog.  Complete transcriptions are manually removed from the mission, and this can sometimes take a couple of days.

Please let us know if you have any other questions, and thank you for your contributions!
