Locked for transcription

We are experiencing an error that emerged over the weekend and our developers are working to fix as a high priority.  We hope to have this resolved soon.

Suzanne, will we be notified in some way once this situation has been corrected so we don't have to go in and start clicking on different areas to see if we can start working again?

We don't have a way to notify all users, but I can post something to this thread.

Our developers have not resolved the issue, but I can tell you that many Citizen Archivists were able to contribute yesterday. So the transcription problem is not completely offline.  You may want to try a small transcription like an index card -  https://catalog.archives.gov/id/292320549 to see if it is working for you.

This problem continues as of this writing. I tried several projects on which I've been working, and get the same message, "This transcription cannot be edited at this time". 

Yes, our developers are still working on the problem.  Some people are able to transcribe, but many people are still encountering this error.  We thank you for your continued patience.

Today is 5/4 and this still appears to be a problem. I've gone in to quite a few "missions" but I have not been able to find anything to transcribe do to this lock out problem.

While the developers work on a permanent fix, we can suggest this workaround:

Click on Transcription and then Start Transcribing:

Check to see if the message - This transcription cannot be edited at this time is present at the bottom of the transcription panel:

If it is, click Close X

Click on Transcription again for the same page

It will open a transcription panel that does not have the error message at the bottom.  You should be able to transcribe, then Publish and Close

I have tried this workaround and it has worked for me a couple of times but in some cases I have used this workaround but when I closed and reopened I could not publish and close after finishing. I have tried this with different projects different missions and it all goes the same way.

Same here, it wouldn't let me save and publish.

This work around will only work if you do not find a username at the top of the Transcription box.  The transcription has to be brand new.  Please let us know if you are having this issue even in this case and we will add it to the notes associated with the work around. We've posted the workaround as a separate post in this forum, so please check there for any updates.
