Numerous Transcription Issues in New Format

Thank you for your feedback and questions.

Following the launch of the new Catalog, we received several reports of a lag while using the transcription tool. This is not expected behavior, and we have logged this as an issue for our developers. We hope to have a solution very soon.

As for the failure to display a document, and the unstable cursor, would you be able to please provide an example or further information about these problems? Details such as the the URL of the record, the search query, a screen capture, or the browser used when experiencing the problem are all helpful to report and address the problem.

Unfortunately, contributions are no longer accepted in our legacy Catalog; user contributions have all been migrated to the new system so as to avoid contributions in two different systems.

Let’s start with the display issue.  Safari 11.1.2 running on a Mac.  After logging in, I click on my name icon and go to my contributions.  Click on link to file I have been transcribing ( File unit: 1881-File No. 4327- McLellan, C B-Texas) Image 276 of 520 -

All that comes up is a solid blue screen with header National Archives NextGen Catalog. There is an institial screen that appears briefly but it disappears too quickly for me to capture..

Let me know if there is any other info I can provide

Thank you for the additional information, Lee. This is certainly not expected behavior, and we apologize for this inconvenience. We have logged this issue with our developers and we hope to have a resolution soon. Thank you again for your patience and understanding as we work through our post launch review of the new Catalog.

Thanks for your attention to this..I wonder if other Apple/Mac/Safari Citizen Archivists are experiencing this issue..

Hi to the Citizen Archivist "Community Managers"; I hope that you are having a good Thanksgiving (and will have good memories of this day when you get back to work). [Smile.]

I wish to add that somehow the number of my "Transcriptions" is now reported as over 700 fewer (about 3238) than was reported before the "migration" to the new interface (it was about 3990, I think -- and I have added some transcriptions to the new Interface).

Could someone find out what happened to these statistics? (I'm not sure if there was also a change to my Tags and Comments statistics, but I was not following them as closely as the Transcriptions total) ??

Thank you for your note, and for letting us know about the discrepancy in your contribution totals between the legacy Catalog and the new Catalog. We are looking into this problem now with our developers to attempt to understand the drop in your recorded statistics.

It looks as though there is also a change in your tag and comment statistics, in addition to transcription.

We are very sorry about this, and we will let you know as soon as we have a better understanding of the cause of this discrepancy. Our developers are working on several other bug fixes in the new Catalog at the moment; I am hopeful that these fixes may address this problem as well.

(I was able to see the other statistics via that link (although I saw a "spinning wheel" "wait" pattern, and the page didn't seem to settle into a "fixed"/stable form ). )

If you could, I hope that you and your fellow National Archives staffers could ask the developers could possibly figure out whether it is or is not the case that hundreds of contributions did not "migrate" to the new Catalog (whether or not it is a discrepancy in the numbers, or whether past work did not "migrate" (or "migrate" yet) ) .

For what it’s worth, I went back and checked a random sample of about 25 of my transcriptions, going back for about two years..they all seem to have migrated successfully to the new catalog!

I am on Mac, but using Chrome and I am having similar issues. The other day the pages weren't loading anything but the first page that showed up no matter which page I clicked on.

Thanks for that post in reply to 1 problem I noticed with the change of interface, Lee.
