Hello,
I'm looking for Benny and Lillie Lowe (possibly born Lillie Frazier in 1893) from Sumter Alabama. Benny was Black and Lillie is listed as mulatto & may have come from a local Indian tribe. I'm also looking for records on John and Fannie Swayne/Swain/Swan from VA I believe. Fannie was born in or around 1785. John may have been a Black immigrant from what is now Germany into the U.S, early 1700s but Fannie appears to have been Black/mulatto American. Any leads are appreciated. If my ancestry chart will help, here it is.
I think Lillie Lowe could be from a Native tribe. She's listed on genealogy sites as "mulatto" and the picture that I saw as a child appeared to be of a Native woman. What's the best way to learn more about Lillie & her family if she were from a tribe? Were Native Names "Americanized" in that time or if she was actually Native would she have a more traditional Native name?
